Frank Lloyd Wright Wisconsin returns to Madison, Wisconsin for an extraordinary tour of exceptional homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, John Howe, Louis Sullivan and other important Madison architects. Wright and Like 2009: Madison ~ Preservation Done Wright! marks our fourteenth year of providing rare interior tours of both private residences and public spaces designed by America's most influential architect and Wisconsin native son, Frank Lloyd Wright and his contemporaries.

Preservation, restoration and green architecture will be at the forefront of Wright and Like 2009. From the recently completed $9.1 million dollar sympathetic addition to the Frank Lloyd Wright designed First Unitarian Society church to the newly constructed Usonian inspired studio/carport for the Herbert and Katherine Jacobs II home; to the restoration of a charming Arts & Crafts Cora Tuttle bungalow and to the remodeling of the distinctly modern 1930's International Style homes of Beatty and Strang, Wright and Like 2009 is an architectural feast! Long considered to be the hometown of Frank Lloyd Wright, Madison was also a center of culture and a vanguard of American architectural development. This enlightened environment enabled architects to abandon traditional architectural styles in favor of more progressive designs. During Wright's own career, he produced over thirty designs for projects in Madison and its surrounding area, beginning in 1893 and ending with his drawings for Monona Terrace in 1959. The variety of innovative architecture by other notable architects can also be found throughout Madison's diverse, historic neighborhoods.

Brunch at the Bungalowen Cottage
Frost Woods neighborhood, Monona, WI

$50 per person (reservations required)

This Event has Sold Out.
Thank you for your support!

Enjoy your post Wright and Like tour weekend with a catered Sunday morning brunch at Bungalowen Cottage, a charming, eclectic Arts & Crafts home on the shores of Lake Monona. Built in 1911, this rustic cottage and adjacent home is still owned by descendants of the original family. A 2008 sympathetic restoration respecting the unique aesthetic and history of the family cottage recently received a NARI award. A discussion by Ben Blodgett, TDS Custom Construction, on the renovation of one of Monona's oldest structures will accompany brunch.

The Frost Woods neighborhood is also the site for a cluster of International Style homes designed by the Madison architectural firm of Beatty and Strang. Built in the 1930's and stark in contrast to the Arts & Crafts style of Bungalowen, these sleek modern style homes, once objects of curiosity, are now classic. A four block neighborhood walking tour, with three homes open for interior tours will follow Brunch. Jim Draeger, Architectural Historian at the Wisconsin Historical Society, will discuss the history of the International Style houses of Hamilton Beatty and Allen Strang.
